My Friend Dotti

I met Dotti when I joined the Red Hats in 2004. Our group is known as the Shady Ladies of Granite Oaks. Since our group meets once a month I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend time with Dotti on a routine basis. That was such a short time. Five (5) years later, in the spring of 2010 Dotti passed away. She was an extremely interesting, kind, lovely and opinionated woman.
In the summer of 2007 my husband Jim, Dotti and Guy, Dotti's husband, took a weekend trip to Winslow, Arizona. We spent the night in the La Posada Hotel.
Originally built for railroad passengers, this hotel is located near Route 66. The guest rooms are named for visitors like John Wayne. The rooms are comfortable but not very fancy. We dined in the Turquoise Room on a menu of Southwestern cuisine based on Navajo and Hopi crops. What a wonderful memory of special friends.

My favorite medium is anything I choose to use that day. Lately that has been oil. It has a rich velvety texture and glides over the canvas. I also like to use transparent watercolors because they glow with luminescence and allows for the light I see in life to be captured on paper. I started drawing as a teenager. You may recall those art advertisements that were in the guise of a contest. Draw this dog and submit it to our panel of artists and see if you qualify. Of course, every submission was a winner if you could afford the huge price tag to enroll in their correspondence school.
