Lovely portrayal of the gorgeous iris. Such a nice light touch with the color and "pleated" petals.

Lovely watercolor, Sharon. Love how light and fragile the petals look, contrasted with the strong center. Beautiful.

Sharon, with such a delicate and masterful control of these transparent washes, you have produced a very fine "portrait" of this blossom. Well done. voted

F & V Sharon, I swear I'm going to save up and get this one! Just so I have a permanent iris, and an amazingly lovely one, at that! REALLY an exceptional job with this one! I've yet to master watercolor, though working with gouache is getting me a little closer. I think I tend to be a little obsessive compulsive about my paint going where I want it (and consequently tend to go texturally thick and dry-brush!), but I love the delicacy you have achieved!

Sharon Mick replied:

What a wonderful compliment. Truly, thank you.

Of course, every submission was a winner if you could afford the huge price tag to enroll in their correspondence school. Well, my family couldn't afford it so my effort to be an artist was put on the shelf, but not my desire. In the 80's my husband and I had a...
