The Sharon House has been closed for a long time. Prior to it being a restraurant it was The Bank of California, Virginia City Branch. In Mark Twain's: His Life in Virginia City, Nevada. It states ...Sharon was hired by William Ralston to manage the Virginia City Branch. Currently the building is used by the Ponderosa Saloon. This watercolor painting is of the Sharon House located in Virginia City, Nevada.
St. Mary in the Mountains Catholic Church can be seen in the background. This church was built during the late 1800s and literally pierces the sky with majestic spires. Parishioners enter through three arched doorways and rose-colored windows shed a heavenly light throughout the services. The solid-cast silver bell can be heard throughout the little town announcing the beginning of Mass. The splendid Gothic altar is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. My favorite medium is anything I choose to use that day. Lately that has been oil. It has a rich velvety texture and glides over the canvas. I also like to use transparent watercolors because they glow with luminescence and allows for the light I see in life to be captured on paper. I started drawing as a teenager. You may recall those art advertisements that were in the guise of a contest. Draw this dog and submit it to our panel of artists and see if you qualify. Of course, every submission was a winner if you could afford the huge price tag to enroll in their correspondence school.
