Description
My Friend Dotti
By Sharon Mick
I met Dotti when I joined the Red Hats in 2004. Our group is known as the Shady Ladies of Granite Oaks. Since our group meets once a month I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to spend time with Dotti on a routine basis. That was such a short time. Five (5) years later, in the spring of 2010 Dotti passed away. She was an extremely interesting, kind, lovely and opinionated woman.
In the summer of 2007 my husband Jim, Dotti and Guy, Dotti's husband, took a weekend trip to Winslow, Arizona. We spent the night in the La Posada Hotel.
Originally built for railroad passengers, this hotel is located near Route 66. The guest rooms are named for visitors like John Wayne. The rooms are comfortable but not very fancy. We dined in the Turquoise Room on a menu of Southwestern cuisine based on Navajo and Hopi crops. What a wonderful memory of special friends.
Dotti shared her story with me about her Harvey Girl days. Women like Dotti have left their mark on the world, at times changing the direction of history and at other times influencing small groups.
Even though she is gone, she shared her insights with us through the words she wrote or the speeches she delivered.
I am so very happy to have had her as a friend. Our friendship was the inspiration for this painting.
