Description
This week I picked the prickly pear cactus fruit. The fruit is called by different names like cactus fig, tuna and indian fig. It is a tricky job to get them off the cactus without being stuck.
After I picked them I boiled them for about 4 hours, strained and then returned the juice to the pan, added some sugar and cooked for another hour and whale or a French word "voila" meaning "there it is JAM. Nothing like i!
After I finished I decided to paint Grandmas Prickly Pear Jam just for fun.

Wonderful, gorgeous painting. We call it "Cactus Jelly" made from the tunas! Tuna is the name here for the fruit from the Prickly Pear Cactus. If you pick all the tunas, it will produce more next year and if you pick the napolitos (young leaves) it will produce less tunas and more napalitos next year. This is a very accomodating cactus! I use a newspaper folded in my hand to pick them, hold while I cut the skin, peal and drop the fruit in a bowl. VF

Sharon, Great painting, love the idea and the details and colors are remarkable. This painting would be ideal for hanging in a kitchen or a restaurant you should shop it around to a couple of restaurants and see what they think. The colors are bright and cheerful, but not overbearing and the detail within the painting is perfect. Excellent job, Sharon, voted, Tweet, FB and Google + promoted

I just love this style of painting...where the paper too brings out the freshness of the subject! Congrats!!

Nice work! I sat on a prickly pear cactus when I was a kid - my dad had to pluck the spines out with pliers lol - all while trying in vain not to laugh hysterically :P
